It's a good song..

I wasn't really too into the vocals as much in this one as in your other tracks. It didn't seem to feel right in there, maybe it was the mixing into the track. I loved the guitars though. Great stuff there. The vocals just seemed kind of hollow sounding on this one if ya understand me.

Good job though, love your music.

Gunshy responds:

thanks for the criticism, i can hear what you're saying about the "hollow" quality of the vocal track. i gave it a little short reverb just to make it stand out a little from the rest of the sound, but it is a little strong. thanks for the 8 anyway. thanks for listening!

Feeling the beat.

I especially love the intro to this song, and right around :17, sound like a latin song there for awhile, and then it becomes more dramatic. The melody is very beautiful. And the arpeggios going up are very nice. I could say something about each instrument really and every rhythm and it'd be something good. The volume is well done for everything so that's another plus.

Oh.. Beautiful job. That flute (If that's what I'm hearing in the background) Does get kind of repetitive after awhile, but that's ok, it isn't too big of a distraction.

Have you ever played the game Legend of Dragoon? This song would fit very nice with its soundtrack.

KgZ responds:

Wow thanks alot man, I'm glad you think this would be in a videogame OST.

I don't recall using a flute sound at all, I assume you're thinking of the string pizz.

Nonetheless, thanks for the review :D

What to say, what to say.

The opening was pretty good, left me with the question of how will the song progress, and how will it digest the material?

However, everything :32 is pretty much.. Boring? There's no melody, just a constant buzz coming from that synth and it gets rather repetitive. I can hear other parts in there sure, but they don't really change or add to the song enough. The drums are pretty much constant, which I guess makes sense, though you could have been more creative with them. The ending is slightly better, but that's not saying much in this case. It gets so distorted by the end it makes my ears hurt in all honesty.

I went and listened to some of your other pieces as well. I think you're a good artist with talent for the electronic genre, this song is lacking. Real bad. There's nothing supporting that one part play most of the time, of course it sounds like it should be the support part anyway. It sounds more like an outro to a song rather then a song. I also saw that this was or the MAC competition.. Madness can have melodies too. In example, though this is a more classical song, Bartok's String Quartet #4. It's indistinguishable in where the beat is almost at parts, sounds like Psycho music, but it's still good, and it's an example of madness with melody and music.

That's all I have to say at the moment, good luck on future work... and... The song can be counted in either 6/8 or 4/4. It just depends on what the tempo you had set was. If you count it 1,2,3,4,5,6 then the 1. If it's counted as 4/4 then there's an accent on beats 1 and 3. :P I just thought that'd be an enjoyable after comment because of your commentary.

Super Review!

I absolutely have been at a loss trying to sound "Madnessy" and my attempts have come out as spaghetti. I'm starting to accept that I just don't "get" the feel and genre of it.

I'm really trying to learn all I can from the reviews I get and applying it, so your words are much appreciated.

You get a hose full of win for explaining the 6/8 4/4 craziness i didn't understand. - It was suppossed to be 6/8, then after listening to after I uploaded it, i did a count and got 4/4....lol. But now it all makes sense.

:)

My suggestion..

Make it longer. It doesn't have enough going on within the short amount of time the song is playing. I can hear the drums and the piano as it approaches the end, but maybe having some rhythmical element to add to the melody may have helped. I can see you took a lot of time into working the drums though. I just don't feel like it's reached maximum potential. It's ok for where it's at, but it can be more! I know this may seem redundant, but there really needs to be some change in the piece, it sort of repeats.

I should have more to say, but I don't right now, so I hope anything I've said helps.

alextheDJ responds:

Yah, this is just a simple demo to see if people liked it and to get feedback. I'll definitely have to add more instruments and sounds like, what you said, a rhythmical element, more stuff goin on etc.

anyway, thanks for the review/suggestions! they are helpful :)

Very soothing

There's a lot that goes on and all of it is very well written, from beginning to the end. The actual authenticity of real instruments, minus the drums (Though programmed drums usually sound authentic) adds to the sound of the song. The pitch just sounds so much better.

The song overall has a nice and relaxing sound, most of the fun comes in the end I must say because most of the song has a similar feeling but instruments start to mesh together in the end so it adds a nice feeling. I enjoyed it altogether though.

thanx for review

I entered the music scene around 2004 as a drummer and started to explore music more in late 2006. I'm always looking to learn more about music and its production. I'm always willing to lend an ear as well and I'm a pretty blunt person so I criticize.
